Campbell River - Canada Day Celebrations

Sunday 1st July

Today we cleaned up our gear, stocked up and repacked, ready to head back out to see the northern part of Nootka Sound.

We also found time to join in the Canada Day festivities in town - there was a market and live music in the park downtown. Also featuring was an excellent slamon bbq - the Fire & Rescue guys cook a great salmon burger! There was also a belt sander racing event - belt sanders dressed up as cars doing slot car racing!

In the afternoon I took a stroll to the other end of Campbell River (Willow Point) where the woodcarving competition was held. The best of these wood carvings are donated at the end of each year's comp by local businesses and they are displayed around town. The big winner this tear looked to be the Norse god Odin, but the spider was pretty impressive too.
